THE SUNSHINE VITAMIN

Ahhh I love some good ole' vitamin D! I picture sitting outside on a warm spring day with a gentle breeze, the smell of flowers and the sounds of birds chirping. I can just feel the vitamin D flowing into my body on a hot day at the beach with a cool drink beside me, the sounds of waves crashing and the smell of the salty ocean air. What's your favorite place to soak in some Vitamin D? 

Vitamin D is more than just a feel good vitamin. Recent studies show it may help normalize blood pressure, decrease your risk for certain autoimmune diseases, and may even decrease your risk for developing colon cancer.  It's been shown to decrease your risk of depression and improve your bone strength.

Vitamin D is only in a few foods- mushrooms, egg yolks, cheese and fatty fish. Otherwise, sunshine is the only way to get vitamin D. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin which means it can be stored in your body's liver and fat. Because it can be stored for a long period of time it's important not to over-do your supplementation of vitamin D so you don't have a toxic amount in your body.
