When you look in the mirror, what are you immediately critical of? Maybe there are several things that bother you. Why is it that when we look in the mirror this is what we're drawn to look at? It's because we are scared that when other people look at us they immediately see that spot that's less than perfect. We are scared of rejection because of our weakness. Worried people will think less of us. Where do we find this "standard" that we are striving for? That perfect body, perfect personality, perfect lifestyle that seems to be unattainable but would guarantee a lifetime of happiness if we could only achieve it? We COMPARE ourselves to other people and think what they have or look like is better. What if, instead of finding the bad things about yourself you found 5 things that you liked every time you look in the mirror? Make it a mission to change your focus. Also, think about what your favorite personality trait is. Are you funny? A great listener? A timely encourager? Compassionate? Great at serving others? What do you think people admire about you? Seriously- why are your friends your friends? Why is your spouse your spouse? Why did someone once fall in love with you? STOP what you're doing a make a list of ten things. GO MAKE THE LIST! This shouldn't be that hard, but it probably is. We can't even give ourselves 10 quick compliments but if you think about your best friend you could rattle off 10 things you like about them without pausing for thought.
What you think about yourself effects your health. It effects the way you eat. The way you exercise. The way you prioritize your life. If you're overweight and view yourself as hopeless you'll continue eating more calories than you should and continue gaining weight. If you're skinny but don't find yourself skinny enough you'll continue eating fewer calories than you should and continue starving yourself. Both are lethal. Your lifestyle habits DIRECTLY IMPACT your life expectancy and the diseases you may experience during that life. And your self- esteem, your self-worth, how you view yourself when you look in the mirror impacts your lifestyle habits. You see why it's so important that you learn to focus on the positives? Change your mind, change you life.
